Electric Car, Wet Season: A Fall Detailing Guide for Vancouver EV Owners

Detailing an electric car through Vancouver's wet months: camera lenses, glass roofs, frunk seals, aero wheels and cabins. Book a mobile EV detail.

Electric cars are everywhere in Metro Vancouver now, from Teslas in Yaletown parkades to Ioniq 5s and Mach-Es on Fraser Valley driveways. They skip the oil changes, but they don't skip the rain. Once October settles in, an EV collects the same road film, leaf grit, and wet-season grime as any other car. It just collects it in a few different places.

This guide is for Vancouver and Fraser Valley EV owners heading into the wet months. It covers what is actually different about detailing an electric car, what you can keep up between washes, and when it makes sense to book a mobile detail that handles the EV-specific spots properly.

What is different about detailing an EV

The paint, glass, and upholstery on an electric car need the same care as any other vehicle. What changes is the layout. No engine bay, more glass, more sensors, and cabins designed around a screen. Those details shape where fall grime hides.

Cameras and sensors hate a film of road spray

Most EVs lean heavily on cameras and sensors for parking, lane keeping, and driver assistance. In a dry month you barely think about them. In a Lower Mainland October, a thin layer of road spray and traffic film on a lens can blur the backup camera or trigger "camera blocked" style warnings.

  • •Wipe lenses gently with a clean, damp microfiber, not a gritty glove or a paper towel.
  • •Avoid harsh glass cleaners on camera covers unless your owner's manual says they are fine.
  • •Check side repeater and pillar cameras, not just the rear one. They catch spray from the wheels.

During a detail, we clean around these lenses carefully as part of the exterior, so you are not left guessing which cloth is safe.

Big glass roofs show every water spot

Panoramic glass roofs are common on electric cars, and they are the largest flat surface on the vehicle. After a week of drizzle and a sunny afternoon, mineral spots and dried film stand out across the whole roof. Leaves and needles also settle in the seams where the glass meets the body.

Our fall water spots guide explains why spots etch when they are left to bake. On a glass roof, the fix is the same idea: keep it clean, dry it properly, and don't let spots sit for weeks.

The frunk replaces the engine bay

If your EV has a front trunk, it takes the place of what would be an engine bay on a gas car. Fall leaves and grit slide in every time it opens under dripping trees.

  • •Wipe the rubber gasket around the frunk lid so grit doesn't grind against it every time it closes.
  • •Clear leaves from the channels and drains around the lid so water can run off.
  • •Vacuum the tub itself. Wet grocery bags and muddy gear leave a gritty film fast.

Charge port doors and flush handles collect grit

You open the charge port door every day, often in the rain. Road spray dries into a gritty ring around the flap and the seal. Flush or pop-out door handles do the same thing along their edges.

A soft brush and damp microfiber keep these areas clean. Don't aim a pressure washer straight into the charge port, and check your manual for any wash or car wash mode your EV recommends before an automated wash.

Aero wheels trap grime behind the covers

Many EVs ship with aero wheel covers or flat, closed wheel designs. They look clean from the curb but hold road film and sludge in the gaps and behind the covers. Regenerative braking means the friction brakes do less work, so the wheel dust can look different from a gas car, but wet roads still throw plenty of grime into the barrels and wells. Our road film and brake dust guide covers why that grime bonds in fall.

Inside an EV cabin in the wet months

EV interiors tend to be minimal, which makes them look sharp when clean and messy fast when they aren't.

  • •Large touchscreens. Fingerprints and smudges show in low fall sun. Use a soft microfiber and a screen-safe cleaner, never a household glass spray.
  • •Light synthetic upholstery. White and light grey synthetic leather looks great, but wet denim and damp jackets can leave dye transfer and grime on bolsters.
  • •Open floor space. Flat floors with no transmission tunnel mean wet leaves and grit spread wider across the carpet.
  • •Glass roof from inside. The underside of a big glass roof picks up the same haze as the inside of your windshield.

A mobile interior detail covers complete vacuuming, steam cleaning, fabric shampooing, and leather conditioning where it applies. That resets the cabin before the darkest, wettest weeks of the year.

Why mobile detailing suits EV owners

A lot of EV owners already arrange their week around a home or parkade charger. Driving across town to a shop and waiting around is the opposite of why many people went electric.

Our mobile units are self-contained, with on-board power, compressed air, and purified water. We don't need your water or your electricity. Your outlet stays free for charging, and the car stays where it already lives, whether that's a Burnaby driveway, a Richmond townhouse, or a downtown condo stall. If you're in a strata building, our condo mobile detailing guide explains how parkade service usually works.

Service runs across the Lower Mainland, including Burnaby, Richmond, and the Fraser Valley. Businesses running electric vehicles can look at our commercial and fleet detailing options for parking-lot service.

Should you ceramic coat an electric car before winter?

A coating doesn't change how an EV drives or charges. What it does is make the wet months easier to live with. A hydrophobic layer helps rain bead and sheet off the paint, and road film releases more easily at wash time.

As certified System X and Revivify installers, we can coat paint, glass, and wheels:

  • •The System X Gold package includes a layer of Glass+ on all windows and the windshield, which helps on large EV glass, plus Wheel+ on the face of the wheels.
  • •Revivify graphene coating uses a flexible layer with a five-year warranty.
  • •System X packages range from two to ten years of warranty coverage.

A coating still needs regular washing. Our ceramic wet season maintenance guide covers how to look after one through the rain. To compare options for your EV, see ceramic coating in Vancouver or request a ceramic quote.

A simple fall routine for EV owners

  1. 1.Weekly: wipe camera lenses, the charge port door area, and door handle edges with a clean, damp microfiber.
  2. 2.Every two to four weeks: a proper hand wash, including the glass roof and inside the wheel covers. Our mobile detailing vs car wash post explains why a gentle wash matters for paint.
  3. 3.Monthly: clear leaves from the frunk channels, the cowl, and the glass roof seams.
  4. 4.Once in fall: book a full interior and exterior detail to reset the car before the wettest weeks.
  5. 5.Before winter, if you want easier upkeep: talk to us about a ceramic coating for paint, glass, and wheels.
